Report by Reuters (in the Borneo Post 7 May 2010) is important as many countries are following the health path taken by the Americans.
Cancer is the No. 2 killers of Americans, after heart disease.
As many as two-thirds of cancer cases are caused by lifestyle choices like smoking, poor diet and lack of exercise.
Other causes of cancer: pollution, radon from the soil and medical imaging scans.
More causes: obesity, alcohol, infections, hormones and sunlight.
With nearly 80,000 chemicals on the market in the US, many of which are used by millions of Americans in their daily lives and are un- or understudied and largely unregulated, exposure to potential environmental carcinogens is widespread.
What is the above message?
Briefly, the true burden of environmentally induced cancer may be grossly underestimated.
