We hear cases of unreasonable doctor’s order from time to time.
The write up by Audrey Edwards (audee@thestar,com.my) in Sunday Star 29 May 2011 is useful for all of us.
Health Minister of Malaysia said that it is necessary for the patient to be informed of the various tests being ordered to ensure they understand their medical condition or the necessity for it to assist diagnosis or treatment.
“Patients need to give approval, whether verbal or written, prior to any investigation, treatment or procedure that needs to be performed on them; and this may require a signed, informed consent from the patients before the procedure is done,” he added.
In cases where there is evidence of unethical practices, the Minister advises patients to lodge an official complaints with the ministry’s medical practice division.
That’s the rights that all of us should know.
