What would you do when faced with a bad cough? Rushing to the clinic?
Not me.
1 September 2010: I joined a team to certify a natural forest area. We spent about 6 hours in an air-conditioned room, as low as 16 degree celcius initially.
My cough began as I normally do not switch on air-conditioner at my work place.
2 and 3 September 2010: The occassional cough sustained.
4 September 2010: I sent my mother-in-law to a private hospital for check up. It was another 6 hours in an air-conditioned environment.
5 September 2010: Rested at home but the cough was still there.
6 September 2010: Went to work. The cough did not subside.
7-8 September 2010: Took 2 days off to have a complete rest. No medication. Just slept much of the time. Avoided all cooling foods such as raw vegetables and fresh fruits. Took some Chinese herbal soup (dang gui) to warm up the body.
9 September 2010: The cough was 95% gone. Back to work in the office again.
Lesson learned: when coughing starts, it is the signal that the body needs a good rest. After having a good rest, one would be energetic again.
